Alright y'all. This is an addition to the blog that been in the works for some time now. While this may come as a surprise to some, the truth is this: I'm crazily obsessed with fashion. I probably read Vogue more than I do my text books - Hence my stellar GPA. I'm constantly in the library researching the designers and industry personalities that inspire me.
I love design in all its forms - Architecture, Industrial design, painting, sculpture, theatre, and the like. My greatest interest, however, lies with the Fashion Arts. I'm always amazed how simple, limp fabric can be sculpted on the body to create moving art. I'm intrigued by the heavily detailed embroidery of an Indian sari, the complex folding and geometry of a Japanese kimono, the timeless elegance of an ancient Chinese ceremonial robe. Jackie O, Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, Carolina Herrera & my sister Dacia are my style icons. I'm going to use this space to chronicle my thoughts, views, and findings on the people, cultures, and things that get my creative juices flowing.
As for the title of the blog, it actually has nothing to do with fashion. While it can be seen as a metaphor for my almost geek-like devotion to arts, it in fact alludes to the shedding of my past inhibitions. "Geek in the Pink" is the title of my favourite Jason Mraz song. The song talks about feeling confident in who you are, not relying on others to validate your self worth, and freeing yourself from the opinions of others.
As my favourite line from the song goes :
"I don't care what they might think about me...They'll get by without me if they want!"
For too long have I hidden the things that I am deeply interested in out of fear that I might be labelled negatively. No longer. Fear not if everything mentioned from here on doesn't make any sense. My thoughts might be confusing, surprising, or even downright rude. But such is fashion itself.
Let the bloodshed begin.
